What is Functional Medicine?
A holistic approach to optimal body function that evaluates individual body systems and how they interact with each other. By looking at the body in a systems-oriented fashion we can find the true cause of disease processes. This approach will also reveal how abnormal function in one area of the body can cause dysfunction in a separate area due to the interconnections within the body. Each disease can present with various symptoms and no two people with the same condition will experience the exact same symptoms. Our focus is to find the ‘why’ behind these symptom manifestations and individualize our treatment approach.
With functional medicine, each patient will receive a detailed history and thorough exam. The detailed history will allow us to pinpoint when the disease process started and what body systems are involved. Our exam is customized to the patient and varies depending on the history and present condition of the patient. We utilize laboratory exams to determine functional blood chemistry levels. Interpretations of these labs help us to further understand what is taking place within the body at a cellular level. We then customize a treatment plan that is unique to the patient based on their history, exam, and laboratory findings. Treatment plans will include modifications in diet and/or lifestyle and the addition of nutraceuticals as indicated. We strive to offer the best care for prevention and treatment of diseases without the side effects associated with pharmaceuticals.

Chiropractic care during pregnancy has many benefits to mom. The dreaded back pain and sciatica that most woman experience can be greatly reduced by proper spinal alignment. Another common issue during pregnancy is imbalance in the pelvis. This imbalance will cause ligaments to tighten and cause restriction of the uterus. By balancing the pelvis and ligaments the baby is able to move more freely in the uterus and get into proper position when it is time for delivery. When the baby is in proper position for delivery there is a decrease in experienced back pain during labor. As an added bonus labor will also be shortened with proper pelvic alignment. For this reason, Dr. Hines, is available for labor and delivery. Since delivery is a traumatic experience for both mom and baby, we offer adjusting for infants postpartum. Adjusting infants will ensure the head is in proper alignment which will decrease breastfeeding issues and reduce ear infections. Care for infants is performed with a modified technique which involves fingertip pressure that is very gentle for your precious little one.
